Reviewing 3 Products from Tarte’s Sea Collection

Good day, everyone! I hope your Tuesday is going well. Today has been a bit slow for us as I’ve been taking care of a sick kiddo. I honestly wasn’t sure if I would get to write this post today, but he’s perked up a bit now so I thought I’d take advantage of that. Today I’m going to be giving you the good and the bad on my very first Tarte order. You’ve probably heard about Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer at least once as everyone who tries it loves it. Today I’ll be telling you about their Sea line. Let me start by saying that these products were not sent to me. I bought them with my own money and every opinion is my own.

Tarte Sea Collection

I’ve known about Tarte for awhile now. I have previously bought their Maracuja Oil and Baba Bomb face lotion from Ulta. The items I’m writing about today were ordered directly from Tarte’s website as a birthday gift to myself. Tarte has eight collections and is known for being cruelty free and vegan friendly, as well as using ingredients that are natural and good for you. Which is why I first looked at them. I was in the market for some new skincare products that were more affordable than the ones I’d been using. I asked another dance-mom friend and she directed me to the Maracuja line. From there, I found the Tarte Sea line. I’ll be honest, what drew me to it first was the whole mermaid vibe it has. It wasn’t hard for me to decide on which products I wanted to try first. After months of waiting (because I didn’t technically need them), I finally bought those products as a birthday gift to myself. Of course I bought them all in travel sizes so I could try them out before investing in regular size products.

Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost

Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost

Made with: Marine Plants, Electrolyte-balancing Complex (water and sea salt extracts), Hyaluronic Acid and Vegan Squalane

First Impressions:
Feels kind of like water? No joke, that’s what I thought to myself as I first applied it. I realized later that it feels like gel, which it is, but without the stickiness that I associate with gel. It goes on very smooth and doesn’t leave my face looking like I applied a few layers of grease. After a few minutes, my skin felt dry again and I chalked it up to my face just being super dry and I had only used a tiny amount to make sure my face didn’t break out. Weirdly enough, after more time passed that same day, the tight feel I always get with dry skin actually went away.

I previously bought the Baba Bomb moisturizer from Tarte and even though I was warned about it, I didn’t listen. A lot of reviews will say that the Baba Bomb broke their skin out. As I’m not acne prone, I thought it no big deal. Big Mistake. Every single time I used that moisturizer, I broke out overnight. Thankfully that isn’t the case with the H2O Hydrating Boost! I have used it several times now and have yet to break out. My skin always feels adequately moisturized and velvety soft to the touch, even into the next day.

Deep Dive Cleansing Gel

Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleanser

Made with: Marine Plants, Allantoin, Provitamin B5, Indian Gooseberry, and Lavender

First Impressions:
This feels a lot like the moisturizer, which probably isn’t a surprise since they’re both gels. As I washed my face, I honestly wondered if my husband had used my face scrubber and not rinsed it properly because of how slippery and soft it felt, like other product was already on it. Turns out, that’s just how the cleanser is. It’s soft in a way that other face washes and cleansers are not. I can’t properly explain it. I can’t say it doesn’t really smell like anything, but the only thing I could think of that’s similar in smell is the Orange Blossom Facial Wash from Young Living, which I realize might not help a lot of people. The smell isn’t overpowering at all, but is pleasant in a weird way.

I really like this cleanser and will definitely be buying the full size one, but I’ll keep this little container for it’s looks. I only have to use one pump for a full face cleaning, two pumps if I’m wearing makeup. I haven’t noticed it drying my face out like other face washes, either. With previous cleansers it feels like my face has been stripped by the time I get a moisturizer on. Not so with the Deep Dive Cleanser.

Surfer Curl Mascara

Surfer Curl Mascara package

Made with: Algae Extract and Vitamin E

First Impressions:
The Mascara didn’t clump on the brush when I pulled it out. I hate when globs of mascara are on the brush and I have to wipe it off on the bottle or risk smearing it everywhere. It went on smoothly and I only had one small section where my eyelashes didn’t look uniform, which was due to my eyelashes and not the mascara clumping together. After one coat, there was visible change in my lashes.

Something you should probably know about me right away: I’m not a big mascara wearer. Even now, I’ll go without it over actually wearing it. For years, I would only wear mascara if I was going to be on stage. I don’t like how tiny clumps fall and get in your eye or the damage that happens to my eyelashes when I try to take the stuff off. I’m just not a big fan of mascara. So keep that in mind for the following review.

The first day I wore this mascara, we were outside in the sun and heat. At the end of the time, there was no flaking or smearing from the mascara. There was a small smudge later in the day from where my eyes had watered, but that was it. When I washed my face that night, it came off really easy, too. I used it again the other day without any other eye makeup and I was really satisfied with how it looked alone. Since I don’t wear a lot of mascara, I might not buy the full size since I don’t want to waste it, but if I ever decide I need mascara in my life more than I do now, I’ll buy the full size.

When my order first came in, the Surfer Curl Mascara was unfortunately missing. I immediately submitted a form on the Tarte website for the missing item then settled in for a long wait on the reply. Within a few minutes I had confirmation and information emails about the missing mascara. After confirming which product was missing, I received an order confirmation email within the next hour. I was completely amazed at the speed of Tarte’s response and correction.

I am so happy these Tarte products lived up to my expectations. There are so many other products in Tarte’s Sea Line, and other collections, that I am looking forward to purchasing and trying out. If you’re looking for a brand that is clean, kind, and affordable, it’s time to check out Tarte Cosmetics.

Have you tried Tarte Cosmetics before? What was your favorite product?
