The God-Breath

“For what will it benefit someone if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will anyone give in exchange for his life?”

Matt. 16:26 CSB

“Then the Lord God formed man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

Gen. 2:7 CSB

Life = God – Breath; The life God breathed into man at his creation.

It wasn’t until after God breathed into man that he became alive. When Satan deceived Adam and Eve, he also stole their life, the God-breath that connected them eternally to God.

When Jesus came, died, and rose again, He made a way for that life to be given back to man. The Holy Spirit is that God-Breath.

“Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying. They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and rested on each of them. Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.”

Acts 2:2-4 CSB

What did the people in the upper room truly hear? It wasn’t the wind, but God’s Breath coming to fill them once more.

Jesus has given us back the God-Breath, the life, that we are now eternally connected to God once again. What will we do to keep it? Is it not worth the pain and suffering, the opposition, that we may experience on this earth, to be eternally connected to God and full of His very Breath?

God’s very breath is life and it rests on us. What benefit have we if we let Satan take that God-Breath from us again? None. Nothing is worth losing that God-Breath.
