I wanted to write Happy Almost-Christmas and about how Christmas is one week away and about the presents that I’m itching to open…but let’s be honest, this week is all about Star Wars. As Kylo Ren said, “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time.”
If you don’t know, our household is huge into Star Wars. Ade’s room is done in Star Wars and the computer area is surrounded with Star Wars Lego builds. We also have a growing collection of canon Star Wars books. Guys, even our Christmas tree is decorated with Star Wars ornaments. Is it really any surprise we’re excited for the new movie coming out? I didn’t think so. The hubby and I are going to an early screening on Thursday with some friends and we’re super excited.
Before that can happen, though, I have one more book to finish. (I only have 271 pages to go. I can do this. *deep breath* ) There’s been a lot of speculation about a certain Star Wars scene that includes Rey and a certain lightsaber, and while most of the fandom is leaning towards a clone theory, I’ve developed a completely different theory on my own. See one of the books I read recently was Aftermath: Empire’s End by Chuck Wendig and while I won’t give a lot away, I’ll say that during the Battle of Jakku, some Sith artifacts were thrown into Jakku’s core. Well what if years later, those artifacts created two life forms–one dark and one light? What if it wasn’t Rey’s parents on that leaving ship but her twin sister being taken away for purposes unknown? Yes, I am proposing that Rey has an identical twin sister, the Dark side to Rey’s own Light side. I realize it’s farfetched. I realize I am probably wrong, but I just can’t let it go. Either way I’ll find out Thursday. Don’t worry, I won’t post any spoilers for at least a few weeks, maybe even waiting until after the new year.
I love the new saga but if I’m being honest, my favorite movies are probably Episodes I and II. I know the prequel trilogy gets a lot of flack but I don’t see why. The only reason I don’t list Episode III with the other two is because watching Anakin Skywalker turn into Darth Vader breaks my heart, just like it broke that of my favorite character’s heart: Padme Naberrie Amidala Skywalker. I still have a poster packed away somewhere of Queen Amidala in her red dress from Episode I. Maybe it’s her iconic fashion that draws me to her? Seriously, I am absolutely in love with her Lake dress and the Cream and Tan ensemble she wears on Geonosis is one of my favorites, too. I know it’s not just the actress that portrays her, though Natalie Portman has become one of my favorites over the years. When Episode I first came out, I didn’t even know who Natalie Portman was. I know Padme doesn’t wield the Force and therefore won’t come back as a Force Ghost…but one can always hope, right?
Have you heard the opinion that Finn unknowingly wields the Force? That’s an interesting one I came across the other day. I’m really curious to see how it all plays out and how about that droid interaction? I wonder if sweet BB-8 will roast C3-PO with R2-D2? Probably not, but it’d be funny.
This Thursday marks the beginning of a busy few weeks between gathering for the holidays and Ade’s birthday. At least we’ll be leaving this decade with a bang! Have you already started Christmas gatherings? Are you planning on watching the new Star Wars movie in theaters? However you’re celebrating these holidays, I hope you stay safe and have a wonderful time. May the Force be with you.
